Poetry reading

December 8, 2011
10:30 amto11:30 am

Haddington member Anna Dickie has sent me this note about her group – Poetrio – reading in Edinburgh. All three poets – Anne Connolly, Irene Brown, and Anna herself – are entertaining and talented readers.

Dear All
Just a quick reminder that the group’s last gig of the year will be on Thursday 8th December at 10.30 am at Hendersons (Hanover Street, Edinburgh). we hope you will wish to combine a shot of poetry and a coffee with your Christmas shopping – or if you are anything like me you might just want to hide out and pretend that it isn’t happening.
Either way Irene, Anne and I hope to see you there!
(A lot has happened since September, Anne has her first full collection out, Irene and I launched our joint pamphlet and we’ve been on the radio both locally and nationally! )
Please circulate this round anyone else you think might like to come along.
.
Best Wishes
Anna D

Creative Writing Day

Message from Tom Murray:

Hello All,

Just a note to say that the deadline, 31st October, for booking workshops and for confirming your attendance at the evening event, is fast approaching.

It would be great if as many of you as possible could stay on after the workshops for the evening event.   I hope to have as many people reading their work, whether from the days workshops or not,  as possible.   You don’t have to read of course just come along and
listen, and clap and cheer!

Even if you can’t make the workshops during the day you are very welcome
to come along to the evening event.

Hope to see you there.

Best wishes

Tom

What’s New on the site?

The site is constantly evolving, growing and developing, and I expect it to develop further when our editorial team is trained and operational. One of the areas that’s growing fastest is the Services for Writers tab. It’s now got Book Reviews and Recommendations, Performance tips, How to get published, and other pages. New pages on publishing opportunities – mags and e-zines – have been added to this section. There are Comments boxes for each of these pages, so members can add their own views and suggestions.

The Committee page has now been put under Groups.

Please use the Events Calendar in the sidebar to get more information on future events. If you know of events which aren’t listed, feel free to email me with details, and I’ll add them when I can. Breaking news items and information on forthcoming events are posted on this page.

Creative Writing Day

November 12, 2011

Writers' Workshop

A full day programme of workshops and discussions will held on Saturday 12th November 2011. The programme and booking form can be downloaded as a pdf here.

TYNE & ESK WRITERS CREATIVE WRITING DAY

SATURDAY, 12TH NOVEMBER 2011,   TOWN HOUSE HADDINGTON.
This day is all about exploring the exciting possibilities of creative writing in a variety of forms.   Whether that means participating formally in the various workshops, or chatting informally over a cup of coffee.  It is also an opportunity to try an area of writing which you might not normally write in.  For instance if you are a poet why not also take a leap into the novel writing workshop, or vice versa.  I believe that different forms of writing feed into each other so even if you have no wish to write a novel just trying something different could spark ideas to be developed  in another form.  Or you might discover the novelist or poet within.   As well as the workshops there will be discussions on Tyne & Esk,  and publishing, as well as an evening social to include readings of poetry and prose.

To run the workshops  Tyne & Esk has brought together some of the most talented writers working today.  See below for further information about the individual writers.

I’ll be doing a workshop on Playwriting.

If you can’t make the workshops during the day please come along in the evening for the social event.  I hope to see you there.

Tyne and Esk acknowledge the support of East Lothian Libraries and Midlothian Libraries.  Also the Scottish Book Trust and Creative Scotland.
