The First Blast
Musselburgh born author Marie Macpherson pays a welcome visit to Dalkeith Library in October to talk about her novel The First Blast of the Trumpet, a vivid fictional account of the early years of the great Scottish reformer John Knox. The first in a planned trilogy, the novel transports the reader into the world of 16th Century Scotland; its sights and smells, romances and sexual politics played out against the looming threat of religious strife …
Marie’s interest in the romance and intrigues of Scottish History were kindled in her days as Marie Gilroy, a former pupil of St David’s High in Dalkeith.
Her visit will include a short film exploring the East Lothian settings of the novel, and will also feature an appearance from musical duo Shatter’d Consort playing 16th Century songs and music in full period dress.
Wednesday 3 October at Dalkeith Library, 7pm for 7:30pm, refreshments served.
